Axel Olin 11 totalt på VM

2007-09-02

Pressinformation från FEI - Third individual gold medal for Vilmos Lazar
Hungary?s Vilmos Lazar has won the FEI World Pair Driving Championship for the third time in his career. The company director of the Lazar Equestrian Park was totally surprised and did not expect to win at all, but the gods were on his side in Warka. Sebastian Warneck from Germany took the silver medal, Lazar?s compatriot Karoly Hodi went home with individual bronze.
The nations competition was won by Germany, followed by Hungary and the Netherlands.

It was an exciting competition on the last day of the Championship. Dr. Wolfgang Asendorf had designed a very demanding and tight obstacle driving course, in which Sweden?s Axel Olin was the only competitor out of 57 who managed to put down a double clear round. Asendorf was pleased with today?s results although he would have preferred to have five to eight clear rounds rather than one. But the tight time window did contribute to the success of the competition.
Vilmos Lazar, who won the individual gold medal in 1999 and 2001 and was member of the golden Hungarian team four times, did not expect that he would take the gold medal home: ?After my dressage test I thought I had lost my chances to winning a medal. To my opinion, the judges gave me fewer points than I deserved. After the marathon, in which I came fifth, I didn?t expect anything anymore.? Lazar was in fifth position before the obstacle driving competition and drove a fast round with only one knock-down. His close opponents all made mistakes and Lazar moved up to the first position.
Lazar thanks his win to his family, his brother and his mother and the fan club, which have supported him throughout the whole competition. It was the last competition for the Lazar-brothers? top horse Mithos, who brought them many successes since 1997. Mithos, a 16-year old Lippizan mare, was also in Zoltan Lazar?s team when he won the gold medal at the 2004 World four-in-hand Driving Championship.
Vilmos Lazar drove the 2006 season with a horse team, but he switched back to driving a pair again this year. Hungary has put in a bid for the 2009 World Pair Driving Championship and if it is allocated to Hungary, Lazar will keep driving a pair. Otherwise he will consider to start looking for some good horses to put a team together again.
Sebastian Warneck was in the lead after dressage and marathon, but one cone and time faults made him drop to silver: ?It was a very tough competition for every competitor, we all had to drive fast to make the time. Unfortunately I didn?t make it, but I am still very happy with my silver medal.? Warneck shortly thought back to the World Championship 2005 when he was on silver before the cones and he lost his medal by making too many mistakes then.
Germany?s Birthday Boy Klaus Tebbe, who was in third position, dropped to the eighth place after he hit two cones.

Title defender Rainer Pointl from Austria withdrew before the start of the marathon. He was forced to use one of his elder horses in the marathon because his good horse had not passed the first veterinary inspection on Wednesday. Pointl felt it would not be fair to the horse, which has done so much for him, to use him in yesterday?s heavy marathon.

Organiser Jan Waga was a tired but satisfied man after the competition. He is already looking ahead and has plans to organise more high level equestrian events at Farma Sielanka. His goal is to promote the carriage driving sport in Poland and to encourage young people to enter the sport.

Pressinformation från FEI - Germany Rules in World Championship Marathon
The German pair drivers have proofed their marathon skills in today?s heavy marathon of the FEI World Pair Driving Championship in Warka, Poland. Klaus Tebbe took advantage of his early start and set the times to beat in the eight big and high obstacles, designed by his compatriot Dr. Wolfgang Asendorf. Tebbe won the marathon, ahead of his experienced team mate Rudolf Huber. Harry Verstappen took the third position from the Netherlands, who is representing his country for the first time at a World Championship.

German Team Leader Fritz Otto-Erley was the happiest man on the show grounds today. With the Top Two positions in the marathon, Germany has taken the lead in the nations competitions and Sebastian Warneck, who came 16th in the marathon, has kept the lead in the individual standings.
Klaus Tebbe, who is celebrating his 33rd birthday tomorrow, was proud of his performance: ?The obstacles were very heavy and I tried to keep my pace up throughout the whole marathon. I am happy that me and my team have managed this today.? Tebbe commented laughingly that he would use most of the prize money for his baby daughter Lily, who was born only four weeks ago. The farrier from Neuenkirchen is one of the ten competitors in Warka have also competed in the FEI World Single Driving Championship in Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy, in 2006.

Rudolf Huber has been a member of the German team at the World Pairs Championship in 2001 and 2005. Two years ago he won the marathon at the World Championship in Wals-Siezenheim and today he aimed for another win. ?I had adjusted my routes in the obstacles because I knew that being one of the last starters, I could encounter bad footing in the obstacles. I decided to take fluent routes and this proofed to be a good decision, because the sand got deeper after every competitor. It was still a very fair competition, though.?

Harry Verstappen drove his pair of striking piebald Dutch Warmblood horses wonderfully through the obstacles, not producing any unnecessary noise. Verstappen is known as a true marathon specialist, he recently won the marathons at the CAI-A Saumur and Windsor and came second in the marathon in Beekbergen. ?I am very pleased with my horses, they have proofed today that they are very strong. I had hoped to win the marathon at this World Championship, but I am happy with my third place, looking at the strong opponents.? Verstappen was disappointed with himself after he made a small mistake in obstacle 7 where missed the first gate.

Dressage winner Sebastian Warneck is a little over two points ahead of Hungary?s Karoly Hodi in the individual standings. Klaus Tebbe has moved up to the third place, while Harry Verstappen is now the best Dutch driver in fourth position. The Netherlands? leading lady Mieke van Tergouw, second in dressage, had to use a young horse in the marathon today and could not perform on the level she is used to.
Double World Champion Vilmos Lazar from Hungary is in fifth position, followed by Georg Moser from Austria and Ben Gosschalk and Mieke van Tergouw representing the Netherlands. The differences between the top drivers are so little, that anything can happen in tomorrow?s final obstacle driving competition.

Germany is leading the nations competition, followed by the Netherlands and Germany.
The marathon on the site of Farma Sielanka in Warka was followed by around 5.000 spectators, mostly fans from Hungary, Germany and the Netherlands. Video images of the marathon were transmitted live on internet via the website of the OC.

Pressinformation från FEI - Warneck Impresses in Warka
Germany?s top pair driver Sebastian Warneck has taken the lead in the individual standings of the FEI World Pair Driving Championship in Warka, Poland. The reigning German Champion presented a wonderful test on the first dressage day and none of the remaining competitors were able to beat his top score of 39,42 points today. Dutch lady driver Mieke van Tergouw, World Champion in Poznan, Poland in 1995 took the second place scoring 41,73 points. Austria?s Georg Moser, the 1993 World Champion, came third.
The Netherlands has taken the lead in the nations competition, ahead of Hungary and Germany.

Warneck, a 24-year old law student from Dabendorf-Berlin, was very pleased with his performance: ?I have to thank my horses, because they did this for me. I only drove this pair, the Dutch Warm blood geldings Condor and Wallegro, for the third time in dressage together. One of my elder horses did not pass the veterinary inspection at the international driving competition in Riesenbeck two months ago and I was forced to compete with this pair. Wallegro did extremely well and I decided to continue driving dressage with him.?
Warneck is hoping to make up for his 2005 World Championship result when he was on silver after dressage and marathon. He then lost his chances to a medal in the final obstacle driving competition.

Mieke van Tergouw was driving her pair of young KWPN geldings and was happy with her performance: ?One of my horses was a little unconcentrated by the applause when we entered the arena, but apart from some minor mistakes I am very pleased with my test.? Van Tergouw is realistic about tomorrow?s marathon: ?I have to miss my main marathon horse because he had a minor injury and was not fit to compete. My marathon pair is young and I am looking beyond this Championship. I will go for it for sure, but I will not take any unnecessary risks. My goal is to finish properly to make sure that my dressage score will stay for the team result. A team medal is as much worth to me as an individual medal.?

Georg Moser sold his top pair after the World Pair Driving Championship 2005 to Poland?s team member Adrian Kostrzewa, who is trained by Austria?s Mr. Fahrsport Albert Pointl. Moser is in his first season with his new six-year-old horses and was pleased to come third. ?I cannot preview exactly how my horses will react in tomorrow?s marathon, which is very technical. My biggest opponents in the marathon are Sebastian Warneck and Hungary?s Karoly Hodi, who is currently in fourth position after dressage.?

Barnaby Bowman from Great Britain caused a surprise by scoring 48,38 points and taking the sixth position. The youngest son of the legendary UK four-in-hand driver George Bowman lend two horses from his father and was pleasantly surprised with his result: ?The horses went really well in the arena, it was amazing! They normally go in my father?s team. I drove them this year at the selection trials but afterwards they went back to my father. I only started driving them again two weeks ago.?
Double World Champion Vilmos Lazar from Hungary is currently in seventh position and as he won the marathons at the last three international events where he competed, he will certainly go for it tomorrow.

Tomorrow?s marathon at Farma Sielanka, the site of the World Pair Driving Championship in Warka, consists of 18.5 kilometres, including eight challenging obstacles, designed by Germany?s Dr. Wolfgang Asendorf. Both dressage days, the sun was shining all day, but unfortunately the rain has now also reached Warka. The weather forecast gives rain for the next two days, but the organising committee is hoping to welcome several thousands of visitors at their very well organised event.
